Librarians,close your eyes

You think that books are just for reading. You’ll see that other people have a different opinion.
Enjoy fantastic work below and you’ll see how far can the imagination go.
Brian Dettmer is an American contemporary artist.
“In this work I begin with an existing book and seal its edges, creating an enclosed vessel full of unearthed potential. I cut into the cover of the book and dissect through it from the front. I work with knives, tweezers and other surgical tools to carve one page at a time, exposing each page while cutting around ideas and images of interest. Nothing inside the books is relocated or implanted, only removed. Images and ideas are revealed to expose a book’s hidden, fragmented memory. The completed pieces expose new relationships of a book’s internal elements exactly where they have been since their original conception.”

Georgia Russell is a Scottish artist who uses a scalpel instead of a brush or a pen to create works of visual fine art.

Book of lights is a book which include a lamp. It was created for Arctecnica by Takeshi Ishiguro. The lamp can be powered by a low voltage adapter.

Olafur Eliasson
Using a laser cuting tehnique , this artist can create a negativ model of a house using 400 to 500 cut slices that are afterwards put together to form an unique piece.

“Obsession with the semiotic erosion of meaning and reality let me to create objects that evangelize their own relevance by a direct fusion of word and form.Books(many culled from dumpsters and thrifts store bins) are lovingly vandalized back to life so they can assert themselves against the culture which turned them into debris.”

More cut-book sculpture absolutely fantastic:

So,what are you thinking? Written word as sculpture is beauty or sacrilege?

I couldn’t understand some parts of this article ans, close your eyes | Monicel’s Blog, but I guess I just need to check some more resources regarding this, because it sounds interesting.
This article sounds well, but how everything is related together?
While this does make me cringe, I think it’s a great option for books that would otherwise be thrown away or even recycled.
